Principal’s Update: What a beautiful first day back to school on Monday! Our students and staff started the year off right in a celebration of Mass with Archbishop Etienne, Father Tom, Father Whitney, parents, friends, and parishioners of St. Benedict’s. Following Mass, two of our Seniors, Falon Methonen and Matthew Goodwin, honoring a Lumen tradition, led their fellow students in a procession and brought the Light of Christ back into the school. Father Tom said a short prayer and then went around the school blessing students, teachers, and our classrooms.

For those of you who wonder what happens during “Advisory” at the start of school, the students and teachers start every morning as a school with the Pledge, prayer, and morning announcements from Student Government. We also end the day in prayer in grade level advisory cohorts as well.

You will see the notice below, but I look forward to seeing everyone at Back to School night on Friday, August 25th. This isn’t last year’s Back to School Night! Parents and students will be able to visit classrooms for 30 minutes and then we will all gather in the school gym for a few remarks and prayer before sharing in fellowship over a potluck dinner.

Thursday, August 24th: Since we had Mass on the 1st day of school, on Thursday students will follow a Monday Schedule.

Add/Drop Deadline: Students have until 12:30 on September 1st to make any changes to their schedules. They should meet with Mrs. Brewer to discuss any possible changes. You may email her at dbrewer@lumenchristiak.com or schedule a time to meet with her.

Back to School Night: Please join us on August 25th for Back to School Night at 6pm.

  • 6-6:30pm Meet our Teachers: When you arrive, pick up your child’s class schedule and visit with their teachers.
  • 6:30pm: Everyone will meet in the gym for a brief welcome and introduction from the Principal, Pastor, PVO President, and School Board Chair before the Picnic.
  • Picnic: There has been recent change and we will be having a potluck style picnic. Please click the following link to sign up to bring a dish to share. http://signup.com/go/svBHtwZ

Senior Retreat: Permission slips for the Senior Retreat are due by this Thursday, August 24th.

PVO News: Thank you to all that attended our Coffee & Tea on the first day of school. It was great to meet so many new parents and catch up with returning families!

ATTIC FRIDAYS: Did you know that 100% of the proceeds from the Archangel Attic support our school? The attic is open Monday – Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Spread the word and encourage family and friends to donate their unused items to the Archangel Attic.

This year we will be expanding the Friday hours of the Attic from 3pm to 7pm on as many Friday’s as we can. This is an easy way to bring in more money and it could add up to as much as an extra $10,000! We will need to staff these hours with Lumen parents. This is a fun way to earn money for our school and count as fundraising share hours. Look for sign-up times at Back to School Night and we will send out an online sign up soon.

AVAILABLE PVO POSITIONS:

  • Attic Friday Coordinator
  • Concession Stand Food Coordinator (Purchase food for the Concession Stand)
  • Gun Show Coordinator for Next Year- (shadow this year’s coordinator this fall to learn the ropes)
  • Vice President of PVO

If you are interested in helping with any of these positions or have any questions about them, please contact Danielle (tanddrybicki@gmail.com).

PVO MEETING: Our first PVO Meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 12th at 7pm. Please consider attending!

Gold Cards: Do you still have Gold Cards to sell? There is still an opportunity to sell them after Masses this weekend at both St. Benedict’s and St. Elizabeth’s. This will be the last weekend to sell Gold Cards after Masses. Please click on the following link to sign up to sell this weekend: http://signup.com/go/gMfCXAG

Unified Journeys: Unified Journeys (formerly known as Catholic Student Exchange) is looking for families who are interested in hosting a student from Guatemala from Mid-October through Mid-December.
