Principal’s Update

Our school year is off to a fantastic start!  With nearly 20 new students in the school, we are settling in nicely to our daily routine.  We start the day in student led prayer and end the day cleaning our classrooms and saying the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.  As a school community, we celebrated a Mass of the Holy Spirit during the first week back at school with Archbishop Etienne and brought the “Light of Christ” into our building.  The Archbishop blessed all our students, our classrooms, the science lab, and our gym as well.  This weekend, our Class of 2019 will go on an overnight Senior Retreat at St. Therese’s camp to reflect on being servant leaders in our school and our community.  Next week, after a rest on Labor Day, our varsity soccer team will head to Healy, Alaska, to participate in the Tri-Valley Tournament against Susitna Valley, Nenana, and other Parks Highway teams.  We wish them the best of luck on their first, and only, travel trip of the season.  Our parish school is a very busy, and blessed, place to grow in body, mind, and spirit!

Campus Ministry

There will be an all High School Retreat Sept 20 & 21st at St. Theresa’s in Wasilla. We need 8 parent chaperones, 4 men/4 women. Chaperone duties include driving students to Wasilla on Thursday the 20th and overnighting with them in cabins, keeping an eye out on the grounds, helping prepare meals, and driving back to school the following day. Contact Mrs. Loeffler at 273-1514 or if you can help.

Please join us for Mass on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:15a in the Archangel Chapel in the school and Thursdays at 9a at St. Benedicts. All are welcome to attend.

Any prayer requests that families would like listed here in Lumen News and also in the Lumen Prayer Book of Intentions may be sent directly to Mrs. Loeffler.

This week we offer our intentions for the repose of the soul of Jean Tousignant and for grace for her family during this difficult time. Additionally we offer intentions for the Church, and for all listed in our Lumen Book of Intentions.

Class of 2019
Senior portraits are due no later than Wednesday October 31st! Please submit your digital files to Mrs. Spillers at as soon as you have them.

Need to Add/Drop a Class?
Tomorrow – Friday, August 30th is the last day to do so. Send your student to Mrs. Brewer if any final changes need to be made.

Online Courses
A quick reminder for parents of students taking online courses:  If your student wants to receive Lumen credit for an online course they’re enrolled in, a “Request to Enroll in an Online Course” form must be completed and submitted prior to the course start. These were available from the online vendors at registration and are also available in the office.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Brewer at

PowerSchool is our on-line student system that allows you to monitor your student’s attendance, grades, upcoming homework assignments, and more. If you’ve not yet set up your PowerSchool account, please send an email to Mrs. Gore at and include the following information: Parent First Name, Last Name, Preferred email. This is a great way to monitor your student’s academic activity!

We’re still looking for a PVO (Parent Volunteer Organization) President and it’s not as time consuming or challenging as you think! Please consider helping out, contact Ms. Gore in the front office, or Danielle Rybicki (see Ms. Gore for contact info).
Over the next week, Ms. Gore will be populating “Remind,” LCHS’s online remind system. If you’re not familiar with Remind, think of it as Twitter* – brief, succinct one liners with important information that needs to be delivered immediately: emergency or weather related school closure info, last minute requests for help, etc. Set up will automatically default to the email account you have on file with the office. If you prefer to have Remind messages sent via text, please send your preferred phone number to Ms. Gore no later than Thursday, Sept 6th, 3p. If you wish to be removed from the Remind system, please let Ms. Gore know that as well.

Scrip Order
Need gift cards? Want to raise easy money for Lumen? Scrip is a no-selling program that allows you to do just that. You purchase gift cards from us at face value and we order those cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center, which results in an instant rebate for the school! Consider buying gift cards from hundreds of popular retailers to use as gifts, or pay for your everyday purchases using gift cards instead of cash or credit cards. Place your order online at or fill out the attached order form and return it to the office. Rebates vary and are listed next to the name of each retailer. The higher the rebate, the more money that comes back to the school.  If you’re setting up an account on for the first time, Lumen’s enrollment code is: B968B67E44853
