If any student attends in Lumen spirit wear to cheer on our debaters, he or she will earn a casual day on Tuesday, Oct 22nd. We also hope you will come out next Tuesday to our Girls Volleyball Rosary Rally at 6:30pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. This is a great way to show support to our Archangel Ladies as they begin their fall season.
Finally, please continue to pay attention to the calendar above and the details below of the upcoming events we have in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you!
Virtue of the Week:
This week’s Sportsleader Virtue is DEPENDABLE: The strength to take action and provide adequate solutions in the face of difficulty. The opposite of VIRTUE is excuse making: The weakness of always having an excuse to get ourselves out of some responsibility.
The Campus Ministry Office is located in the school library, students and parents are always welcome to stop by!
Permission forms for the 9th grade retreat on Friday, November 15 were sent home with students Monday. The retreat will be held at the Holy Spirit Center.
Seniors and Middle School students did a wonderful job on Wednesday, October 16, working for St. Francis Food Pantry, Prestige Care and St. Patrick’s Church. Thanks to everyone who helped!
Thanks to students and families who volunteered for the Salvation Army teddy Bear Tea!
Please remember the following in your prayers this week:
Those lacking adequate shelter, food and clothing as the winter comes on
Our national and world leaders
For members of our military and their families
For the sick and infirmed
If you would like special intentions listed in Lumen News and Prayer Book of Intentions send them directly to Mrs. Loeffler.
All are invited to join us for Mass at 7:15 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays in our School Chapel.
Pray for Peace. Act in Peace.
TOMORROW – FRIDAY! “Dream, Girl”
Strong Teens * Powerful Role Models * Don’t miss this opportunity to have your daughter(s) enjoy an afternoon at the Bear Tooth Theater with some of the state’s most influential female leaders of today. This is a free event where girls of all ages will be able to hear inspiring stories and learn to recognize their own future potential. Free pizza will be provided, 1p-3p.
SUNDAY – Lord of the Miracles Celebration
Please join Mrs. Alvarez and the Lumen Spanish I & II classes this Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe as they celebrate the Lord of Miracles with Anchorage’s Peruvian Community. The celebration will be at the 11:30am Mass and will have a procession after. There will also be a reception with Peruvian food and dances. All are invited to join our students and attend!
*Students: Please wear Lumen Christi attire and proudly represent our school. Remember that this event will fulfill your Spanish Mass attendance requirement, you’ll also be given extra credit for your attendance.
Interested in learning how to score a game? Been a scorekeeper but need a refresher course? Either way there will be a training at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Gym on Tuesday, 10/22 (~7 p) following the Volleyball Rosary Rally which starts at 6:30 pm. This is a great way to support both the High School and Jr. High teams (Jr. High plays in the spring) and earn Family Share Hours – especially if you have players and will be at the games anyway!
The High School team could also use some help with hospitality during the Spiketacular Volleyball tournament next weekend. Please sign up to help with either (or both) needs if you can.

Dodgeball, Open House, Chocolate Challenge!
On Friday, November 15th, the school will be hosting an Archdiocesan-wide Dodgeball Tournament. Organized by the Archdiocese but held here in our NCAA regulation sized gym, this promises to be a really fun night not just for our Lumen families, but all those who will be visiting our school as part of games or as your guest at our modified “open house.” So what’s it all about?
PART 1: DODGEBALL
The Dodgeball team rules are simple: 3 boys/3 girls per team. Can only find 4 girls and 2 boys or 2 girls and 4 boys? Not to worry. Want 3 men/3 women? Great – adult teams welcome too. Are you a 6 person family of all ages that wants to play together? Awesome – make it so. Teams will be matched for play the night of the tournament according to male/female ratio & assumed ability (we promise elementary school teams won’t be matched against the Dimond Baseball Team!)
The winning team gets to take home an awesome trophy for the year, there will also be awards for the Best Team Spirit & Best Uniform.
Please register your team(s) if you plan to participate: https://forms.gle/4M7ABe8S8625N6gu5. You don’t need to submit player names, Archdiocese organizers simply need to know who to expect so they can plan appropriately. Players may only participate on one team in order to keep the playing field level. Questions about the Tournament can be directed to Matthew Beck at 907-297-7734.
PART 2. “OPEN HOUSE” (kind of, not really)
Experiencing the Lumen school community first hand has proven to be a major selling point for families considering enrollment. As a result, we’re scrapping our traditional fall Open House with its formal tours and hosting an informal night of community building instead.
Prior to the start of the Dodgeball games we’re inviting all Lumen families and their guests to join us for dinner from 6p-7p at the school. Thanks to several amazing family sponsors* we’ll be bringing in an Olive Garden Pasta Bar for all to enjoy. Please invite a family or two with Lumen aged students who might be interested in learning more about the school. You (or your student) can give them a tour, they’ll meet teachers and staff, get fed and maybe even play dodgeball!
(Become a sponsor of this first annual pre- dodgeball tournament dinner! $250 – only three sponsor slots left. Call/text Lumen parent Shareen Crosby at 907-317-8811. Businesses or families welcome.)
3: And finally……CHOCOLATE CHALLENGE
Starting on Tuesday, November 12th, there will be boxes of brownie mix in the office. Take a box home, add a secret ingredient and return your creation to the Pasta Dinner on the 15th. There will be a “taste off” with a prize awarded to the most-best-tastiest-delicioius brownies. Get creative and see if your baking skills are up to the challenge!
Stay tuned for additional details on what will be a busy November night, but mark your calendars now – you won’t want to miss it.
Calling all bakers!!! Sign up to make a dessert our Gala’s infamous Dessert Dash. Each year we ask restaurants, bakeries and home bakers to make something sweet for us – these treats literally bring in thousands of dollars as part of our fundraising event! As a reminder, the Gala is on Saturday, February 8th, 2020. Please share this invitation to anyone who may be interested in creating something for our event.
Please indicate what type of dessert you will be brining when you sign up- https://signup.com/go/QfnVSJN
Desserts should be delivered on Saturday, February 8th to Lumen Christi High School between 8 am and 4 p.m.
Desserts should serve 8-10 people.
We can’t wait to see your fabulous creations!!
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Watch for more details, next week!
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Auction
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is looking for High School volunteers at their Annual Auction on November 8th. Lumen parent Kellie Thomson will be recruiting from advisory classes next week, don’t be surprised if your student comes home requesting a ride to SEAS in a few weeks! It’s a great way for them to earn Share Hours and help out our elementary sister school.
Archangel Sports Update #Lumenproud:
High School Girls Volleyball practice continues with their first game of the season scheduled for 7p on Wednesday, October 23rd at the O’Malley Sports. Following that will be the ever-popular “Spiketacular” tournament on October 24th – 26th, also at the O’Malley Sports Center.
Junior High Basketball practice started on Monday this week with great looking teams for both the boys & girls. The first games of the season will be at the Su-Valley tournament in Talkeetna on October 25th & 26th. This is a unique, overnight away game/tournament for Junior High players who normally don’t get to travel.
Stay tuned for game updates for both our Volleyball and Basketball Archangels!
